Great Dog Raising Advice

Dogs love to jump, run and play. They like to eat, even when it is an item they shouldn't chew on. They also love to give you all the kisses in the world. Your responsibility is to take the best care you can of your dog, and this article will show you how it's done.

Never leave your dog with just anyone when you’re away. To find the most reputable dogsitters, Google “dog boarding near me” for times you’re going to be gone long, like for work trips, or search “dog daycare near me” for times you’ll be gone all day.

Never allow your dog to ride in a car unsecured. Sitting on your lap or in the front seat is dangerous both to him and your ability to drive. Always place him in an appropriately sized pet carrier or invest in a pet seat belt that will keep him snug and safe in the middle of the back seat.

Talk to your vet about what you feed your dog. A puppy's stomach may not be able to properly digest certain brands, sometimes causing an adverse reaction. Use care when feeding your dog.

If you notice your dog gets dry skin in the winter, you probably need to brush him or her more often. Doing so will get rid of old fur and help get their oil glands working properly. Try brushing once in the morning and once in the evening to see if it makes a difference for your pet.

Keep your dog warm during winter with the latest in canine fashion and accessories. You may think it's just for show, but dogs need protection from the elements too! Keeping your dog's paw-pads dry is essential to their health in sub-freezing weather, so invest in suede or leather footwear and pick him up a coat while you're at it. Make them instead if you are creative!

If you do not have any ear cleaner solution on hand, you can use a baby wipe instead. Simply wrap it around the tip of your finger and wipe the inside of the ear's surface. Only go as far as your finger can easily fit. Do not use Q-tips as they can injure the ear.

Getting a dog on a whim is rarely a good idea. You need to make sure you can afford to feed a dog and cover medical expenses before getting a pet. Research different breeds to figure out which dog would be best for your family, your lifestyle and the size of your home.

Do not make training your dog seem like a chore. Dogs pick up on this negative energy and will have a difficult time learning if you are not in the right mind frame. Make it fun and try to look at it as a bonding experience with your pet. When your dog is having fun, they will learn their training quicker.

Know the symptoms of dehydration in your dog, as it is a common ailment that can be dangerous. Particularly during hot dry summer months, your dog may pant excessively and experience a loss of the elasticity of his skin. If you see this, encourage him to drink water and add a little Pedialyte to rehydrate him.

If your pet slips up and uses the bathroom in your home, be sure to remove every trace of the mess. Use a cleaner that gets rid of smells. If any scent from their excrement is left behind, they may keep soiling that area.

Although some dogs do well on the recommended amount of food to be given each day, some dogs need more or less. Instead of just going by what your food says to feed your dog, try to keep an eye on your dog's body. If you notice that your dog is gaining a bit of weight, cut the food intake back a bit.

If your dog seems to have a bad reaction from every shampoo you use on him, try a green product. Most commercial brands of dog shampoo contain a lot of things like phosphates and sulfates, which can irritate your dog's skin. They are also harmful to the environment so you'll be solving two problems at once.

If you're considering introducing trick commands to your dog, make sure that you have first covered all of the basic commands, such as sit, lay down, stay, and come. Although trick commands are fun and entertaining, having a well-mannered dog is more beneficial. Having a dog "stay" when asked will be more fulfilling than having a dog "play dead."

Ask your regular vet about the brand of food your dog should be eating. Choose a diet that is adapted to the health of your dog. If this is a category your dog falls into, giving him the improper food can put his health in jeopardy. Your vet will be able to recommend a diet that is best for your dog.

If you won't be the only person tending for your dog, make sure that everyone who will be taking care of the dog is on the same page. If you have one way of doing things and your significant other has another way, you should sit down and explain the ways and figure out which one will be applied constantly by both people.

Now that you have some simple tips to use with your dog, you should feel more confident in being a pet owner. That will result in a happier life for both you and your puppy pal. Don't stop learning here, instead keep reading all you can to ensure you're always up on the latest when it comes to dog ownership.

Common Orthopedic Surgeries

The human skeleton is the internal framework of the body. It is composed of around 270 bones at birth – this total decreases to around 206 bones by adulthood after some bones get fused together. When it comes to orthopedic surgery this equates to a lot of different potential injuries that may require medical assistance.

FYI: Orthopedics is a category of practiced medicine and surgery the deals with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. A sub-category of orthopedics is sports medicine, which deals with injuries sustained from physical activities.
The following are the most common orthopedic surgeries performed by US hospitals.

Total Joint Replacement

Total joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which parts of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced with a metal, plastic or ceramic device called a prosthesis. The prosthesis is designed to replicate the movement of a normal, healthy joint.

Total Shoulder Replacement

Total shoulder replacement arthroplasty is a well-established surgery for restoring comfort and function to the arthritic shoulder. In this procedure the arthritic ball is replaced by a smooth met- al ball fixed to the arm bone (humerus) by a stem that fits within it.

Spine/Back Surgery

Back surgery is a procedure that aims to change a patient's anatomy, such as removing a painful herniated disc, with the purpose of providing pain relief. Back surgeries vary, with some procedures minimally invasive allowing for quick recovery and others more extensive requiring longer recoveries.

ACL Reconstruction

ACL reconstruction is surgery to reconstruct the ligament in the center of your knee. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) connects your shin bone (tibia) to your thigh bone (femur). A tear of this ligament can cause your knee to give way during physical activity.

Human Skeleton Anatomy

The human skeleton has 206 bones. Arms are among the most commonly broken bones, accounting for almost half of all adults' broken bones and requiring orthopedic surgery to right the fracture. If you don’t know where your nearest surgical center is, Google “hospitals near me” to locate one close by.

Knee Pain and Prolotherapy Injections

The following was originally posted at: https://www.pegasuspain.com/prolotherapy-for-knee-pain/

The knee is the largest joint in the body. A wide variety of inflammatory, mechanical, or traumatic injury on the knees can occur anytime at any age. Currently, the leading causes of knee injuries are ligament strains and tears. Other knee problems arise as a result of the degenerative process in relation to aging.

Knee pains can occur at the bones, joints, cartilages, or ligaments. These areas are prone to injury, and there are times when the healing process may not be adequate to restore the damage. Aside from delayed healing process, they may also become weak due to genetic variation. Research suggests that some genes predispose a person to have weaker tissues and joints.
Others experience knee pain due to hormonal changes, pregnancy, hypothyroidism, and other co-existing medical conditions such as bone deformities, arthritis, and chronic strain on the tendon fibers and ligaments.

Prolotherapy, otherwise known as regenerative injection therapy, is a form of treatment which involves the injection of a solution to stimulate healing. It works by increasing cell growth factor levels to encourage tissue repair and healing.

How Prolotherapy Works

The injected solution in prolotherapy causes a low-grade inflammatory response at the site of the injured knee joints. This induced inflammatory mechanism tricks the immune system to initialize “tissue repair.” It happens via activation of the “fibroblasts”—the cells responsible for synthesizing the collagen and other substances that play essential roles in wound healing.

Typical Prolotherapy Treatment Course

The average number of prolotherapy sessions is around 3 – 6, with some cases necessitating more or less. Treatment sessions vary, depending on the severity of the patient’s condition. If improvements are not observed after four treatment sessions, a re-assessment or re-evaluation might be performed to determine if there are interfering factors that prevent the healing process.
Some factors that may delay the regenerative process of prolotherapy include: poor sleep, noncompliance, diet changes, continued aggravating activities, unhealthy lifestyle, other illnesses, or use of medications that may hinder the healing process.

Prolotherapy: A Long-Term Solution

Clinical studies have shown that prolotherapy helps in stimulation and regeneration of cartilages.  Many medical specialists also believe that it is an exceptional treatment solution for different knee problems. Since it is a treatment approach that has been clinically proven effective, it is usually considered for management of knee pains before undergoing any invasive medical procedures such as surgeries, or long-term narcotic interventions.

Treatment result may vary from patient to patient, but with the advantages it offers, prolotherapy is something to be considered.

Sports Medicine: Overuse Injuries

The following useful information was originally posted at www.practicalpainmanagement.com.

The evaluation and management of chronic overuse sports/athletic injuries is one of the most pervasive concerns in sports medicine today. Overuse sports injuries outnumber acute, instantaneous injuries in almost every athletic activity. Because overuse sports injuries are not instantly disabling they attract less medical attention than those that cause an acute and obvious loss of function. Therefore, their frequency of occurrence is almost always underestimated in surveys of athletic injuries. The treatment of overuse sports injuries is made difficult by various factors, including an insidious onset which means that the problem is usually ignored at the start. When athletes actually present for treatment, the injuries are well established and more difficult to manage successfully. Additionally, these injuries seem less serious to the athletes and makes it difficult to convince them of the importance of intensive treatment for correction.

Overuse injuries are almost always a result of change in three general areas: the athlete, the environment, or the activities. Identifying these changes requires patience, precision in history-taking, and a great understanding of the demands of the specific sporting activity. The most common cause of overuse athletic injuries is continued athletic participation despite the presence of symptoms associated with another injury (eg. pitcher who continues to throw despite persistent elbow tendonitis). Continued participation with an existing injury also occurs as the result of inadequate rehabilitation.

Some overuse dysfunctions are the result of normal physiological changes such as rapid growth spurts in which musculotendinous flexibility often decreases and indirectly causes tendonitis (eg. Osgood-Schlatter knee syndrome). Environmental alterations occur in the athlete’s personal environment (eg. equipment and clothing) or the more global sports environment (eg. running hills in a training regimen previously limited to running flat surfaces). Advancing to a higher level of athletic proficiency involves both quality and quantity of workouts. Even increasing workout time in an abrupt manner can result in overuse athletic injuries, especially when an athlete attempts to perfect a single, isolated skill.

The prevention of recurrences of overuse injuries is the most important aspect of managing overuse injuries thus, the physician’s role becomes one of reinforcing and reminding the athlete to identify the appropriate changes to be made in their regimen…

About Surfing Wetsuits

What is a surfing wetsuit?

A wetsuit is a garment, usually made of foamed neoprene, which is worn by surfers, divers, windsurfers, canoeists, and others engaged in water sports and other activities in or on water, primarily providing thermal insulation, but also buoyancy and protection from abrasion, ultraviolet exposure and stings from marine organisms. The insulation properties depend on bubbles of gas enclosed within the material, which reduce its ability to conduct heat. The bubbles also give the wetsuit a low density, providing buoyancy in water.

Why do surfers wear wetsuits?

A wetsuit works by getting wet and then trapping a thin layer of water against your body which then heats up and keeps you warm.

When should you use a wetsuit?

Commercial wetsuit manufacturers suggest wearing a wetsuit that is 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick in water. In water 50 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, you should use a wetsuit that is 3/16 to 1/4 inch thick.

How do you take care of a wetsuit?
  • Rinse your gear with fresh water. Do not use hot water, use cool or tepid water.
  • Never wash your wetsuit in a washer or with other garments.
  • Use a special wetsuit cleaner that will help remove salt, chlorine and organic residues.
  • Hang to drip dry away from direct heat and sun.

Where’s the best place to buy a wetsuit?

9 Ways to Make Money Online

"I want to earn money online, but where do I start?" If this is part of your inner monologue, then you are already ahead of most people because you have that steady drive, determination, and initiative that your fellow office drones still waiting in line at the office copier simply don’t have. Break out of the cubicle and be your own boss with these 9 super simple ways to make serious money from home.
  1. One great way to make money online is to use a site like Etsy or eBay to sell things you make yourself. If you have any talents, from sewing to knitting to carpentry, you can make a killing through online markets. People want items that are handmade, so join in!
  2. Before you set your heart on making money online, set your household up. Making sure you are free from interruptions can be a very important part of your success. Children, spouses and other people can cut you off at the most inconvenient times. Make sure your time is your own, so you can maximize earnings.
  3. Design unique logos for some of the new startup sites on the web. This is a great way for you to show the talent that you have and also help someone out who is not artistically skilled. Negotiate the price with your client in advance before you provide your service.
  4. Start out small when you want to make money online, to minimize potential losses. For example, something that looks promising could turn out to be a bust and you don't want to lose a lot of time or money. Do a single task, write just one article or order only one item until the site you choose proves to be safe and worthy.
  5. If you are knowledgeable about a particular subject, put your knowledge to work for you. There are many companies, such as about.com, that will pay you for your knowledge. Most of these sites do require you to write a certain number of articles each month; however, this is a fantastic way to bump up your earnings.
  6. Don't quit your day job until the online money making opportunity you're looking into starts paying off. While it could prove to be a jackpot, you don't want to risk being up the creek if it's not what you were hoping for. Always have enough money in the bank for a few months of bills, just to be on the safe side.
  7. If you do not want to put a large monetary investment into your online business, consider buying and selling domains. Basically, purchase a domain at a rock bottom price. From there, sell it for a profit. Remember, though, to do your research and figure out which domain names are in demand.
  8. To make real money online, consider launching a freelance writing career. There are numerous reputable sites that offer decent pay for article and content writing services. By checking into these options and reading feedback of each company, it really is possible to earn an income without ever leaving your home.
  9. Be grounded in your expectations about making money online. It still takes time and effort. Block out an hour a day from your schedule to spend online working on things, but do not quit your day job yet. It could be days or even weeks before you even know what you are good at.

Determination and education is all you need. After reading the tips above, you are ready to begin working online. And now, a bonus tip: Do guerilla marketing. Low-cost advertising techniques. Use a commercial copier at FedEX Office to print out flyers with your information and ways for people to find your business online. Use your website URL or Facebook page to connect with them. Cheap and easy.

8 Great DIY Home Projects

When it comes to something like home improvement, you want to always make sure you know as much as you can so you can improve your home to the best of ability. Whether it’s about house painting, landscaping, or even installing a new roof, kitchen appliance, hardwood floor, or whatever… study up on the proper ways to go about making it happen the right way. Check out the following DIY home improvement tips to get started.
  1. In order to save money on air conditioning costs during the summer, try installing ceiling fans. Ceiling fans recirculate air within a room, cooling it down without the need for turning on a central air system. They are relatively easy to install and can be installed in place of your lighting fixture.
  2. When it comes to home improvement, go with your gut feeling about the contractor as long as everything else matches up. Do not even consider someone that you do not fully trust, as you probably have that feeling for a reason. If you have a hint of mistrust toward the contractor that you meet with, it may only lead to anger and mistrust on an exponential level if things do not go according to plan.
  3. Adding window blinds to your windows is a great way to accomplish a sense of privacy. Many people don't use curtains or blinds because they want to let in natural lighting. However, don't forget that you can see outside, but whoever is outside, can also see inside. Window blinds can add to your privacy and come in different styles to choose from. You don't have to go with the cheap plastic factory blinds. You can find some really nice wooden or bamboo shades that do the job, just as well.
  4. Rearranging your furniture can be fun, but oftentimes you need visual aides to determine where to put everything. A great way to arrange furniture with visual aiding is by taking a piece of graph paper and cutting out square shapes in a scaled format to represent your different pieces of furniture. You can easily toss your graph paper pieces around and decide how everything can fit together. It definitely saves you the trouble of pushing your furniture around first.
  5. When working on a home improvement project, make sure to buy high quality materials. You can save money initially if you buy appliances or cabinets that have imperfections but using these materials could reduce the value of your residence. If you always purchase the best for your home, the results will be astonishing.
  6. Write out a list of all things that your home needs before you set out to your favorite home improvement store. When you make a list, you ensure that you don't make a lot of trips to the store. It also keeps you organized.
  7. The kitchen is usually the room that sells the place. Take a look around and see if there are any inexpensive things you can do to your kitchen to make it look recently update. Get rid of that wallpaper or add hardware to your cabinets. Do whatever is simple and quick, but effective. You will be able to mention the update in you listing and buyers like seeing that.
  8. When it comes to interior house painting, you may be tempted to Google “local painters” because, let’s face it, painting can get messy. However, you can DIY. Try to do all your painting in daylight hours, as artificial light can cause you to miss small areas. Tackle the ceiling first, painting around the edges in bands, and working your way into the center. The walls should be painted starting at the top, and working downwards in sections.

If you want the house of your dreams, then you need to do your homework and plan properly. The way to see improvement is to get started, and there is no better time than now. What are you waiting for?

7 Pro Roofing Tips

If you need roof help – roof repair, gutter installation or gutter repair – you probably want to hire a roofer to do the job. After all, these aren’t the easiest do it yourself home improvement projects. However, finding a contractor you can trust is much easier said than done.

You can either Google “roofer near me” or “gutter installation near me” and roll the dice, or simply use the tips below to help you find a trustworthy contractor.
  1. If you're looking into hiring a roofer, the first question you should ask is how long the company has been in business. Someone might sound great on paper, but if they're new to the game, they may still be ironing out kinks in their business practices. You don't want to be the one they test things out on.
  2. In order to ensure that your roof stays in good condition, make sure that you trim the trees in the surrounding areas. This will prevent any branches from scuffing the surface of your roof which could eventually lead to more serious problems. This also helps prevent any fungus or mold grow on your roof.
  3. If you have a leaky roof, make sure that your gutters are clear. If there is no way for water to drain, then the gutters can accumulate rainwater and cause leaks in the roof. Install ridge and soffit vents so you can prevent any dry rot from developing on your roof.
  4. Only ever hire a roofer who has a license and is fully insured for the job. If anything happens while they are working, be it a worker who falls off the roof and is injured or a worker who falls through your roof and destroys your valuables, you'll be pleased you held out for the right company!
  5. If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Calling around for different quotes for your roofing job is important to ensure you get the best price. However, if a contractor is offering their services way below the average, ask yourself why. It could very well be a good deal, but it could be a scam as well.
  6. If you want a "greener" roofing option, you may want to consider installing a living roof. A living roof has layers of soil in which a plant or flowers can be grown. While only meant for flat roof surfaces in certain kinds of climates, living roofs are great for insulation.
  7. If your roof needs a repair, it is possible that you could tackle the situation yourself if you have the knowledge. However, it is important that you wait for proper weather conditions, as roofing can be dangerous work. Working in weather that is not dry could result in serious injury or death.

Having read the article above, you should now have a much better understanding how to address any of your roofing needs. Be sure and use the advice given in order to maintain your roof so that it will last you years without any problems. Doing so will not only save you money, it will keep you and your family safe.

How Hospitals Help the Local Community

If you watch the news, read the paper or cruise the social media threads, you are well aware that the concept of US healthcare is a ping pong ball being knocked back and forth across the net between those who feel the our doctors are honestly trying to keep us healthy, and those who feel the whole industry is designed to keep us sick. It’s not a new concept, but with the advances in communication over the years, the debate is reaching more and more people.

Where does that leave the actual brick-and-mortar hospitals and medical centers who are stuck in the middle of this debate? A recent article from The American Hospital Association had this to say about how, despite the growing debate, hospitals are still a force for good in their communities:

The billions that hospitals spend on an array of activities, such as wellness programs, transportation and housing assistance among other community-oriented projects, are not accounted for in basic financial reports. The bottom line: Hospitals continue to provide tremendous benefits to the communities they serve.
Hospitals also use their resources to reinvest in new models of care that go well beyond the traditional hospital walls, finding new ways to help improve the health of their communities—from providing access to medical care for patients in rural areas to supporting cutting-edge medical research and innovations. Hospitals are also working tirelessly to address and combat the social determinants of health, such as poverty and violence, that harm individuals’ ability to achieve well-being.
Despite these daunting financial challenges that many hospitals face, our commitment to our mission remains unshakable: to provide a wide array of benefits tailored to the particular needs of the communities we proudly serve.

No matter which side of the healthcare debate you stand on, your local hospitals and medical centers are still there, still struggling to stay open, staffed with a team of doctors, specialists and surgeons, who stand ready to help heal any ailment you or the community has.

If you aren’t aware of your local hospital, simply Google “medical center near me” and a list of hospitals, clinics and surgical centers will be made available to you.
